The island of Holbox is situated in the
North east of the province of Yucatán, about two hours from Cancun city (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes on the road and 20 minutes by boat), and about 3 hours from the city of Mérida (approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes on the road and 20 minutes by boat).

Arriving to Chiquilá you have to take the ferry which will cost $ 45.00 (pesos) and which will bring you in approximately 20 minutes to Holbox.
Or you can rent a speedboat which can bring you to Holbox in approximately 12 minutes with a cost (per boat) of $ 250.00 (pesos). This price is valid during the day until 7 PM. After 7 PM the price will be around $ 350.00 (pesos).

We can also offer you a private transfer from the centre of Cancun or from the airport to Chiquilá (one way or round trip) where you can cross to the island. In Holbox we will be waiting for you with a golf trolley to take you to the hotel so you can start enjoying this wonderful place.

What to Do: From the hotel ´Elements Holbox´ we can organize several excursions, for example the whale shark tour or a fishing tour.

One of the most attractive things in the zone is the magnificent Yalahau lagoon, which is a piece of natural paradise surrounded by mangrove swamps. This lagoon separates Holbox from the mainland. One day a Mayan king commanded to close the place to the public to turn it into a place where he could rest where he constructed a swimming pool with precious decorations. For the ones who love diving this is an excellent option.

In the Yalahau lagoon you can find the ´Island of the birds´ which only measures 500 meters of diameter which exists out of sand and guano. Approximately 155 species of birds eat and nest there, being the main attraction the pink flamenco which visits the island from April to October.

In this magnificent lagoon you can also see dolphins, which approach the lagoon in the first hours of the morning to feed themselves. During the summer it is the best place to snorkel. morning to feed themselves. During the summer it is the best place to snorkel.

Another option for the ones who love nature is watching the egg-laying of the turtles. A big amount of sea turtles arrive to the island in the months May, June and July to deposit their broods. It can take the turtles up to one night to make their nest, deposit their eggs and cover them with sand, before returning to the safety that the sea offers them.
